Sanaa:The Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Investment has condemned the targeting of a cement factory south of Hamdan in the Sanaa Governorate by Saudi forces. This attack resulted in the deaths and injuries of several workers and their family members, predominantly women and children, and caused extensive damage to the facility and its production utilities.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Ministry stated that the attack on a civilian industrial facility, part of the private sector, is a severe assault on the economic and productive capabilities of the Yemeni people. It reflects the ongoing efforts of the Saudi regime to undermine the national economy amid an economic war and continuous siege, which have severely impacted productive activities and increased the suffering of citizens.
The Ministry highlighted that the repercussions of the attack extend beyond immediate human and material losses, affecting the industrial sector by disrupting production, threatening job opportunities, and endangering the livelihoods of Yemeni families. It also undermines the investment environment and hinders efforts to boost local production and achieve economic recovery.
The Ministry emphasized that targeting factories and civilian economic facilities constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and amounts to a war crime, particularly with the intentional targeting of civilian objects. It stressed the importance of holding the perpetrators accountable for these actions.
Furthermore, the Ministry stated that crimes and attacks on Yemeni economic and production facilities will be documented and legally pursued to ensure the victims' rights and demand fair compensation for the losses incurred by the industrial and investment sectors.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to supporting the industrial sector, protecting investors' and producers' interests, enhancing the national economy's resilience, and continuing productive activities in collaboration with relevant authorities and the private sector.
It urged the United Nations, international and human rights organizations, and economic and industrial unions worldwide to condemn the targeting of civilian economic facilities in Yemen. It called on these entities to fulfill their legal and humanitarian responsibilities to protect civilians and civilian objects, prevent future attacks, and hold those accountable for the assaults.
The Ministry affirmed that safeguarding industrial and investment facilities and maintaining the national economy's capabilities is a national responsibility. It described the attacks on factories and production facilities as direct assaults on the Yemeni people's right to work, development, and a dignified life.
