Taiz:The National Human Rights Commission has condemned the actions of mercenaries in Taiz, who are accused of mutilating the body of a martyr from the armed forces. The Commission described this act as a war crime and a significant moral, religious, and humanitarian failure.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Commission's statement equated the mercenaries' actions to those of Daesh, asserting that such behavior is alien to the values of Islam and Yemeni culture. The stripping of the martyr's clothes was described as a dishonor to the mercenaries themselves.
The statement emphasized that international humanitarian law requires respect for the bodies of the deceased, citing specific articles from the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court that prohibit mutilation. The Commission argued that these actions constitute a violation of these laws and amount to a war crime.
Furthermore, the Commission directly blamed the Saudi forces for supporting the mercenaries involved in this act. It urged the people of Taiz to denounce this crime and called on international bodies such as the United Nations to take action against the perpetrators.
The Commission vowed that this crime would be documented and presented to the International Criminal Court, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
