Neda’a Al-Karama Center Condemns Suppression of Protesters in Southern Governorates, Holds Saudi Arabia Responsible

Sanaa: Neda'a Al-Karama Center for Rights and Development has publicly condemned the violations committed against citizens peacefully protesting in the southern governorates, particularly Aden and Hadramout. The protests arose due to the ongoing deterioration and interruption of essential services, especially electricity and water.

According to Yemen News Agency, the center's statement highlighted the excessive use of force against peaceful protesters, which included live fire, direct assaults, and arbitrary arrests affecting dozens, including children. These actions are seen as a clear violation of the constitution, national laws, and international conventions that guarantee freedom of opinion, expression, and the right to peaceful protest.

The center's statement held Saudi Arabia fully responsible for these violations, noting its control over the areas and the legal obligations under international humanitarian law, including the 1907 Hague Regulations, the Geneva Conventions, and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

Neda'a Al-Karama Center called for the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees related to the protests and demanded an end to all forms of security persecution against activists and citizens. The center also urged the international community, UN organizations, and human rights bodies to take urgent action to document these violations and refer them to relevant international authorities to ensure accountability.

The statement emphasized the humanitarian suffering experienced by residents due to the disruption and deterioration of basic services, leading to deaths, particularly among the elderly and children, and the spread of diseases and epidemics.

The center noted that the prolonged crisis, despite repeated promises of service improvements, indicates a systematic policy by the Saudi occupation coalition to subdue the Yemeni people through collective punishment and living humiliation, forcing them to accept its projects and agendas.
