Amran: The College of Agriculture and Food Sciences was inaugurated on Wednesday at Amran University, marking the launch of the Applied Agricultural Bachelor’s Support Project for 34 students. During the opening ceremony, First Deputy Governor Abdulaziz Abu Khurfasha emphasized the significance of establishing this college in Amran, recognizing the region’s abundant agricultural resources.
According to Yemen News Agency, Abu Khurfasha highlighted the agricultural sector as a crucial contributor to resilience against adversities, stating, “those who do not possess their own food cannot make independent decisions.” He emphasized the local authority’s commitment to advancing the agricultural sector by providing necessary resources, including the establishment of this college.
President of Amran University, Dr. Mohammed Al-Dula’i, outlined the primary objectives of the new college, emphasizing the need for qualified agricultural engineers to boost the farming sector. He explained that the college’s foundation was supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, the local authority, and the Agricultural, Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit.
Advisor to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, Engineer Samir Al-Hanani, expressed optimism that the college would enhance agricultural education and contribute to comprehensive development. He noted that agriculture is the economic backbone, vital for reducing economic dependence on foreign powers.
Al-Hanani further stressed the importance of preparing skilled personnel for the agricultural sector, aligning with the broader revolutionary and political leadership’s objectives. He underscored the role of educational institutions in fostering agricultural development, encouraging youth enrollment, and raising awareness of agriculture’s role in achieving food security and self-sufficiency.
