Palestinian Education Sector Suffers Severe Impact During Three Years of Conflict

Gaza:The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has released a report detailing the significant impact of Israeli military actions on the Palestinian education sector from October 7, 2023, to October 7, 2026.

According to Yemen News Agency, the report highlights the tragic loss of over 19,189 students in Gaza schools and 1,386 university students during this period. Additionally, 28,586 school students and 3,082 university students sustained injuries of varying severity. In the West Bank, the conflict resulted in the deaths of 134 school students and 39 university students, with 871 school students and 283 university students injured. Furthermore, 416 school students and 481 university students were arrested.

The report also covers the toll on educational and administrative staff. In Gaza, 805 school workers and 246 university staff members were killed, while 3,298 school workers and 1,493 university workers were injured. In the West Bank, casualties included 7 school staff members killed and 26 injured, alongside the arrest of more than 176 teachers and school employees, and 21 university staff members.

Educational institutions have faced severe destruction, with more than 179 government schools in Gaza completely destroyed. Additionally, over 105 UNRWA schools were bombed and destroyed, along with more than 63 university buildings. In response, 700 educational and learning centers were established in Gaza, along with 12 virtual schools to support students both locally and abroad.

In the West Bank, the targeting of educational institutions persisted, with a demolition order issued for Jinba School in Masafer Yatta and the temporary closure of four schools in Hebron. The denial of permits for teachers in private schools in occupied Jerusalem further hindered educational efforts in the region.
