Sana’a: Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahwi officially launched an agreement aimed at localizing the entire domestic gas cylinder industry. The agreement was signed by key figures such as the Ministers of Economy, Industry and Investment, Eng. Moeen Al-Mahakri, Oil and Minerals Dr. Abdullah Al-Amir, and Yasser Al-Wahdi, Acting Executive Director of the Yemen Gas Company.
According to Yemen News Agency, the agreement outlines specific roles and responsibilities for the two ministries and the gas company to achieve a 100 percent localization of gas cylinder manufacturing. This initiative seeks to replace imports with locally produced cylinders, ensuring production aligns with technical standards from the Yemeni Gas Company and specifications from the Yemeni Standards, Metrology and Quality Control Authority.
The agreement also mandates the Ministers of Economy, Industry and Investment, and Oil and Minerals to issue a decision halting the importation of gas cylinders by April 1, 2025. Prime Minister Al-Rahwi celebrated this agreement as a strategic move within the government’s economic stimulus program. He commended the Ministries of Economy and Oil for their efforts in supporting this industrial localization.
The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of this development, coming after the recent localization of the cement industry. He emphasized the government’s dedication to revitalizing factories involved in gas cylinder manufacturing to bolster the national economy, reduce import costs, and attract investors to the sector.
During the announcement, the Acting Executive Director of the Yemen Gas Company provided insights into the production and maintenance processes for the new cylinders, noting the factory’s annual capacity to produce and maintain 300,000 cylinders each. The ministers acknowledged the factory’s adherence to high standards of quality, safety, and security, and stressed the need to support local factories to enhance competition and fulfill domestic market needs.
The ministers also emphasized the importance of boosting local production and industrial capabilities to stimulate economic activity, create jobs, and reduce unemployment. They acknowledged the factory’s role in maintaining gas cylinders to ensure citizen safety.
