Sana'a: Head of the Joint Committee for Addressing Prison and Prisoner Issues, Sheikh Ali Nasser Qirsha, has appealed to businessmen and philanthropists to assist insolvent prisoners by contributing to the settlement of private financial claims that these prisoners are unable to pay.
According to Yemen News Agency, Sheikh Qirsha highlighted that numerous prisoners remain incarcerated solely due to their financial incapacity, with some individuals having been detained for over two decades without convictions for serious offenses. He emphasized the committee's readiness to furnish accurate information regarding these insolvent prisoners to potential donors, stressing the humanitarian suffering extended detentions have inflicted on their families. This includes issues such as poverty, family breakdowns, and children being raised without paternal figures.
Sheikh Qirsha articulated that the appeal is part of the committee's ongoing endeavors to tackle prison-related challenges and to foster values of compassion, justice, and social solidarity. He called for collaborative efforts between official bodies and the community to support this humanitarian initiative.
