Hajjah: The General Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea condemned the criminal attacks carried out by aggression mercenaries against a number of fishermen off the coast of Midi District in Hajjah Governorate.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Authority explained in a statement that elements affiliated with the aggression mercenaries intercepted 16 fishermen who were on board five fishing boats west of the coastal area of "Buhays" on Monday evening. The statement highlighted that these criminal elements severely beat three of the fishermen and confiscated four boats with their equipment and the quantities of fish on board, before forcing all the fishermen to return to the fish landing center in "Buhays" using only one boat.
The Authority emphasized that these attacks are part of a series of systematic and repeated violations targeting the livelihood of Yemeni fishermen. It revealed the extent of moral decadence and the absence of human conscience among those criminal elements, who deliberately cut off the livelihoods of thousands of families dependent on the fishing profession.
The Authority renewed its call to the international community, along with humanitarian and human rights organizations, to assume their responsibilities and condemn these criminal practices. It urged them to address both the aggression mercenaries' actions and the ongoing violations by Eritrean authorities against fishermen in Yemeni territorial waters.
The statement stressed the necessity of protecting fishermen and guaranteeing their legitimate right to practice their fishing activity. It also called for providing them with means of safety, as they are civilians practicing a difficult profession to earn a living.
