Maqbanah: The representative of the Central Emergency Development Interventions Unit for Taiz and Lahj governorates, Badr al-Din Al-Tayyar, reviewed today the operational plan for the Al-Awtiyah water barrier in Al-Habaybah sub-district, Maqbanah District.
According to Yemen News Agency, Al-Tayyar and the Director of Maqbanah District - Head of the Maqbanah Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative Society, Abdulrahman Sinan, listened to a briefing from those in charge of the barrier regarding the operational plan, which aims to make optimal use of the project for developmental and economic benefits in the district.
A meeting discussed the procedures for investing in the barrier to provide irrigation water, expand agricultural land, raise the level of agricultural production, and enhance the sustainability of activities related to the agricultural and livestock sectors.
The attendees emphasized the importance of utilizing the Al-Awtiyah barrier filtration project, implemented by the Central Interventions Unit, within an integrated development vision aimed at benefiting from water resources and supporting agricultural value chains. They also stressed the need to prepare a program for investing the barrier's water according to development priorities focusing on expanding the cultivation of suitable crops and fodder in the area, contributing to improving the income of farmers and breeders, enhancing food security, and supporting local economic development.
They pointed to the importance of forming a community committee that includes representatives of the local community and the cooperative society, under the supervision of the local authority, to manage and operate the project, oversee the regulation of irrigation water distribution, follow up on operation and regular maintenance works, and establish mechanisms for water investment that ensure the project's sustainability and the preservation of its components.
