Sana'a: A meeting was held on Wednesday in the capital Sana'a to review the progress of water and electricity projects funded by the World Bank through the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister of Electricity, Energy, and Water Adel Bader. It brought together key figures including UNOPS Solar Energy Project Specialist Bashir Hafez Allah, Chairman of the General Corporation for Electrical Industries Abdulghani al-Madani, Director of the Water and Environmental Sanitation Emergency Unit Abdulkarim al-Akhram, and Director of the Rural Water Projects Authority in Ibb Governorate Majid Al-Shami.
The discussions were centered on the implementation of various water and electricity initiatives, with a particular focus on rural and semi-urban areas. Special attention was directed towards the Al-Radmah Water Project in Ibb Governorate and the Amd Water Project in Khawlan District of Sana'a Governorate.
Deputy Minister Bader highlighted the urgent need to complete these projects, noting their importance in enhancing access to essential services in the face of ongoing challenges. He acknowledged UNOPS for its support and contributions to the energy and water sectors, emphasizing the organization's role in alleviating the difficulties faced by citizens through sustainable development efforts.
Bader reiterated the Ministry's dedication to facilitating UNOPS operations and addressing any obstacles that might impede the implementation of projects aimed at benefiting local communities.
In his remarks, Bashir Hafedhallah reaffirmed UNOPS's commitment to supporting and prioritizing crucial water and electricity projects, as well as resuming work on suspended initiatives.
Majid al-Shami provided an update on the al-Radmah Water Project, which is jointly funded by UNOPS and UNICEF at a cost of $2.2 million. The project is set to benefit over 34,000 residents in Al-Radmah District and neighboring areas.
