Sanaa:The National Commission for Human Rights has issued a strong condemnation of the Saudi-led airstrikes on the Beit Al-Lehaydah area in the Bani Hushaish District, Sanaa Governorate, describing the attack as a heinous crime.
According to Yemen News Agency, the airstrikes involved two direct hits that resulted in the death of one female student and injuries to three others. The Commission has characterized this attack as a deliberate war crime against childhood and education, highlighting that targeting female students is a direct assault on the educational process and a violation of international law.
The Commission's statement emphasized that the attack represents a flagrant violation of Article 52 of Additional Protocol I, which protects civilians, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which criminalizes targeting children. It further stated that such actions qualify as a war crime under Article 8 of the Rome Statute.
In the aftermath of a previous attack on a sponge factory in Shamlan, the Commission noted that this incident marks a continuation of a systematic campaign against civilians by targeting them in homes, schools, and on roads. The airstrikes on the Beit Al-Lehaydah residential area are seen as a clear intent to kill and terrorize.
The National Commission for Human Rights holds the Saudi forces fully responsible for this crime and has urged the United Nations and international organizations to condemn these actions.
