Zabid: Scholars from the southern districts of Hodeida governorate held an expanded meeting Wednesday in the city of Zabid to discuss recent developments in Yemen and the region and to reinforce the religious and educational role of scholars in addressing current challenges.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting was organized by the General Authority for Endowments and Guidance and the Scholars' Unit in cooperation with the Association of Yemeni Scholars. It was attended by Governor Abdullah Atifi and focused on strengthening public awareness and community guidance.
Speakers, including senior local officials, religious scholars, and representatives of academic institutions, highlighted the responsibilities placed on scholars during this period and stressed the importance of mobilization and awareness to address risks facing the nation.
The closing statement, delivered by scholar Yasser Wasel, called for enhanced preparedness for the next phase of confrontation and encouraged participation in training programs considered part of the current national requirements.
Participants also warned against attempts to undermine values, ethics, and religious identity, calling on families to safeguard youth from ideological and behavioral risks.
They urged unified religious efforts to counter sectarian and regional tensions, voiced concerns over any collaboration with foreign adversaries, and emphasized supporting security agencies in identifying collaborators.
The statement further underscored the importance of strengthening agricultural and cooperative sectors to achieve self-sufficiency and called for preserving the historic and scholarly heritage of Zabid while improving essential services in the city.
