Mellitah: The Mellitah Gas Complex had completely stopped working due to a sudden technical failure in the power generation units, the Libyan National Oil Corporation said on Saturday. “The Mellitah Gas Complex was completely out of operation on Friday evening, due to a technical failure in the power generation units, which resulted in a complete blackout in all the complex’s facilities, including the shutdown of the gas processing plant in the complex, and the cessation of production at the Bahr Essalam gas field,” the Corporation stated in a statement.
According to Yemen News Agency, the company’s specialists, engineers, and technicians immediately addressed the technical failure, implementing all necessary emergency measures. These measures included operating emergency power stations and working towards restarting the gas processing plant, subsequently aiming to resume operations at the Bahr al-Salam platform and recommence gas production.
The National Oil Corporation further elaborated that maintenance teams at the Mellitah Gas Complex are diligently working to rectify the sudden technical failure swiftly. Their goal is to restore the complex to its normal operational capacity, thereby ensuring the continuation of production.
The Mellitah Gas Complex, located about 100 kilometers west of Tripoli, is a significant oil facility in Libya. It is operated by Mellitah Oil and Gas Company, a partnership between the Libyan National Oil Corporation and the Italian company “Eni.”
This complex is crucial for the production and processing of natural gas. It handles gas from the Bahr al-Salam offshore field, processes and compresses it, and then distributes it locally or exports it to Europe via the Green Stream pipeline to Italy. The facility also treats condensates and associated gases.
The Mellitah Gas Complex is a critical resource for fulfilling the Libyan market’s gas demands and serves as a major hub for exporting energy to European markets, making it one of the most vital assets in Libya’s oil and gas sector.
