Sanaa: The Supreme Political Council affirmed that the blood of the Yemeni people is not forfeit, and that the targeting of civilians and detainees, and the violation of the sovereignty of the Yemeni Republic, will not go unpunished.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Supreme Political Council pointed out in a statement that it is following the ongoing Saudi escalation against the Yemeni people, foremost among which is the massacre targeting the Central Correctional Facility in Al-Hazm city, Al-Jawf Governorate. This attack resulted in the death and injury of a number of inmates and coincided with assaults on civilian homes in several governorates, constituting a breach of international humanitarian law and related international covenants.
The statement by the Supreme Political Council condemned the assault on the Central Correctional Facility and its inmates, labeling it a severe development with Saudi Arabia bearing full responsibility for the attack and its consequences. The Council emphasized that the Yemeni people's blood is not to be taken lightly, and the continuous targeting of civilians and detainees along with the invasion of Yemeni sovereignty will have repercussions. Yemen maintains the right to defend its population, sovereignty, and interests, and any further escalation by Saudi Arabia would lead to significant consequences for which it would be held accountable.
The Council urged the United Nations, the Security Council, and other relevant organizations to denounce these attacks and to end their silence regarding ongoing crimes. Furthermore, the Council directed the government and pertinent authorities to provide emergency relief and first aid to the injured, support the families of the deceased, assess the destruction, document the violations, and ensure all legal procedures are followed to hold the perpetrators accountable.
Lastly, the Supreme Political Council extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. It reassured the Yemeni people that the rights and sovereignty of the nation will be defended, and that such crimes will only bolster Yemen's resolve until victory is achieved and its land is liberated.
