Taiz: A joint committee comprising representatives of the Presidency and Public Prosecution in Taiz governorate approved on Sunday the release of 40 prisoners from detention facilities in Al-Ta'ziyah and Mawiyah, the Criminal Investigation Department, and the Public Prosecution detention facility, in implementation of directives issued by the Leader of the Revolution and the President of the Supreme Political Council on the occasion of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday.
According to Yemen News Agency, Member of Ansarullah's Political Council and head of the presidential committee overseeing the Prophet's birthday celebrations, Mahmoud Al-Junaid, stated that the measure embodies the values of mercy and benevolence espoused by the Prophet's message and gives those released an opportunity to reintegrate positively into society.
For his part, Deputy Prosecutor for Criminal Investigation, Security and Prisons Judge Ismail Al-Faqih explained that the release decisions were subject to legal review and included immediate releases as well as releases conditional on completion of the required period and personal guarantees. He added that the remaining files are still being reviewed to release eligible prisoners in due course.
Meanwhile, Head of the Grievances Authority branch Rashid Al-Kadhahi urged those released to appreciate the significance of the religious occasion, abide by the law, and serve their communities. He noted that the amnesty included prisoners who had served three-quarters or half of their sentences in non-serious cases, subject to the required guarantees pending further proceedings.
