Tax and Customs Authority Explores Blockchain for Enhanced Customs Operations

Sana'a: The Tax and Customs Authority held a workshop on Monday focusing on the potential use of blockchain technology in customs operations to enhance transparency and improve procedural efficiency. The event aimed to examine how blockchain could streamline processes and ensure accuracy in customs activities.

According to Yemen News Agency, Deputy Head of the Authority Dr. Ahmed Shuraim emphasized the technology's role in verifying the actual customs value of goods, invoices, certificates of origin, and classification data. The workshop, which took place at the Tax and Customs Institute, highlighted the benefits of modern electronic systems in refining customs procedures, reducing subjective assessments, and combating fraud and counterfeiting.

Participants also explored the technical, legal, and procedural aspects of adopting blockchain technology. Discussions included the integration of artificial intelligence to support the technology and an evaluation of potential risks along with response plans.
