Sanaa: On this day in history, February 24, air and ground raids by US-Saudi-Emirati forces resulted in civilian casualties and significant destruction across various Yemeni governorates. The attacks, which took place over several years, led to the loss of lives and damage to infrastructure and private property.
According to Yemen News Agency, on February 24, 2016, missile strikes by the Saudi army in the Ghafira area of Saada Governorate resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to eight other civilians. Additional missile attacks targeted the border district of Razih. The aggression also saw air raids in Marib Governorate, causing injuries and destruction of a health center, and strikes on Bani Hushaysh district in Sanaa Governorate, among other locations.
On February 24, 2017, airstrikes on a restaurant in Al-Barh market, Taiz Governorate, caused the deaths of four citizens and injured three others. Multiple raids targeted the districts of Al-Makha and Dhubab, as well as areas within Saada and Sanaa
governorates, leading to further casualties and infrastructure damage.
The following year, on February 24, 2018, saw aggression aircraft launching raids that injured civilians and destroyed a water drilling rig in Saada Governorate. Attacks in various districts of Sanaa, Hajjah, and Taiz governorates led to significant damage to civilian properties and infrastructure.
On February 24, 2019, raids on Sanaa Governorate resulted in the deaths of three women and an elderly man, with five others injured. In Hajjah Governorate, two citizens were killed in airstrikes. Shelling in Al-Hodeida Governorate led to injuries and damage to residential areas, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
February 24, 2020, witnessed continued aggression with multiple air raids targeting districts in Al-Jawf and Sanaa governorates. In Al-Hodeida Governorate, attacks led to property damage, and combat fortifications were established by mercenaries.
On February 24, 2021, Saudi border guards’ fire injured five citizens in Saa
da Governorate, with additional air raids in Marib Governorate. Shelling by mercenaries in Al-Hodeida Governorate contributed to ongoing instability in the region.
The violence persisted on February 24, 2022, with artillery shelling causing casualties in Saada Governorate. Air raids in Hajjah Governorate and attacks on civilian infrastructure continued to disrupt lives and livelihoods.
Most recently, on February 24, 2023, reconnaissance aircraft and mercenaries engaged in combat actions in Taiz and Al-Hodeida governorates, perpetuating the cycle of violence and destruction across Yemen.
