Hodeida:A vocational training program has been launched for 80 inmates at Hodeida's central correctional facility. The initiative, led by the province's undersecretary for services affairs, Mohammed Halisi, aims to equip 60 male and 20 female inmates with skills in sewing and the manual weaving of *ma'awaz* (traditional Yemeni sarongs) over a two-month period.
According to Yemen News Agency, the program is funded by the governorate's General Authority for Zakat. At the launch event, Halisi highlighted the critical role of vocational training and rehabilitation in enhancing inmates' abilities and preparing them for productive work life. He also praised the Zakat Authority's commitment to economic empowerment programs for inmates.
Judge Amin Al-Qarni, Head of the Public Prosecution in the governorate, noted the importance of such programs in providing care and vocational skills to inmates. He mentioned the cooperation between judicial, security agencies, and the Zakat Authority in implementing these rehabilitation programs.
Mohammed Hazza, Director of the Zakat Authority office in the governorate, emphasized that the program is part of a broader initiative to empower inmates economically. He explained that the training helps inmates acquire practical skills that can be used to earn income.
Lieutenant Colonel Tawfiq Al-Zariqi, Director of the Central Correctional Facility, praised the local and Zakat authorities for their focus on inmate welfare. He stressed the need to strengthen and expand vocational workshops to include a wider range of professions.
Abdullah Hazza, Director of the Economic Empowerment Department at the Zakat Authority, detailed that the training includes practical sessions supervised by specialists in tailoring and weaving traditional crafts. This equips inmates with skills to use during their sentences and after their release.
The event was attended by Mohammed Al-Awadi from the Zakat Authority, Captain Osama Ali, Deputy Director of the Central Correctional Facility, and several staff members from the Economic Empowerment Department.
