Sana'a: The Sana'a Capital Secretariat and the General Authority for Small and Micro Enterprise Development organized a workshop on unifying economic empowerment concepts and strengthening the capacities of multi-purpose cooperative associations across the capital's districts.
According to Yemen News Agency, the workshop was attended by members of the Secretariat's Development Team and aimed to establish a shared understanding of economic empowerment, enhance participants' ability to assess their institutions, develop practical empowerment plans, and monitor their impact.
Opening the event, Sana'a Mayor and Head of the Development Team Dr. Hamoud Abad highlighted national efforts to build a resilient economy and achieve self-sufficiency, stressing the need for coordinated action and sustainable development programs that support private sector participation and productive families. He affirmed the Secretariat's readiness to strengthen cooperation with the Authority to advance development and economic empowerment initiatives.
First Deputy Mayor Al-Madani emphasized the importance of improving the performance of cooperative associations, supporting productive families, promoting local products, and implementing sustainable development projects. Deputy Head of the Development Team Hamoud Al-Naqeeb praised the Authority's role in advancing economic empowerment programs, calling for the workshop's outcomes to be translated into practical measures that enhance local development and self-sufficiency.
Authority Chairman Dr. Ahmed Al-Kabsi outlined the workshop's objectives, which included economic empowerment concepts, community participation, national value chains, monitoring and evaluation systems. He also reviewed projects funded by the Sana'a Capital Secretariat, including support for productive families, production facilities, food-processing training, and community financing portfolios offering interest-free loans through cooperative associations. He noted that 28 financing portfolios have been established across the capital's districts.
The workshop concluded with recommendations stressing the need to strengthen cooperative associations, support productive families, small enterprises, develop qualified workforce capacities, promote sustainable development, and economic self-reliance.
