Sana’a: The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Abdul Wahid Abu Ras, has expressed Yemen’s appreciation for Algeria’s consistent support for the Palestinian cause in international forums, notably during its tenure as a member of the UN Security Council.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Deputy Minister conveyed these sentiments in a letter to Ahmed Attaf, Algeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. Abu Ras highlighted that Algeria’s stance is an extension of a long-standing solidarity, originating from the time of the French occupation of Algeria. During this period, the leaders of the Algerian revolution emphasized the principle that Algeria’s independence would be incomplete without Palestinian independence, a sentiment echoed by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The letter further noted that Algeria played a significant role in the 1988 declaration of the establishment of the State of Palestine. This support is rooted in the shared religious and fraternal bonds, as well as moral and humanitarian principles between the two nations. Abu Ras called for enhanced cooperation and coordination of positions through practical measures aimed at fulfilling the aspirations of Arab and Muslim communities. He emphasized the need to counter the crimes and expansionist ambitions of the Zionist entity, which pose a threat to regional countries, especially amid ongoing US vetoes that protect Israeli actions and the UN Security Council’s inability to uphold its responsibilities for maintaining international peace and security.
The Deputy Minister reaffirmed Yemen’s steadfast support for all just causes of the Arab and Muslim nations, with a particular focus on the Palestinian cause.
