Sana'a: The Yemeni Authority for Standards, Metrology and Quality Control has taken decisive action by destroying quantities of imported and locally produced goods found to be non-compliant with approved standards, through its branches and inspection centers in several governorates.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Authority's Nihm inspection center recently destroyed Chinese-made electrical extensions that failed to meet safety standards. These products lacked protective shutters on socket openings, posing a significant danger to consumers.
In the Capital Secretariat branch, and in cooperation with relevant agencies, the Authority destroyed 445 baskets of locally produced chicken liver contaminated with salmonella, deeming them unfit for human consumption. Additionally, 38 barrels (220 liters each) of Chinese tomato paste were found opened and swollen, marking them unsafe and a health risk.
At the Dhamar inspection center, authorities took similar action by destroying 10 cartons of Chinese lemon tea drinks nearing expiry. Furthermore, they disposed of 1,050 spring digital scales of prohibited types due to false readings, along with 1,000 electrical sockets and 80 electrical extensions from China. All these items violated safety standards and were banned from import due to the risks posed to citizens' lives.
The Authority has emphasized that these measures are part of its ongoing commitment to protecting public health and safety, and to preventing the entry or circulation of products that fail to meet approved national standards.
