Aqaba:Yemen's national youth team secured a place in the semifinals of the 13th West Asia U-17 Championship after defeating Syria 3-1 in the Jordanian city of Aqaba. This victory comes as part of the second round of Group A competitions.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Yemeni team now has six points, having previously won against Palestine 2-0 in their opening match of the tournament.
During the match, Yemen took a commanding lead in the first half with goals from Silan Bashir and Mohammed Sadiq in the 5th and 31st minutes, respectively. The team, coached by Anwar Ashour, maintained its dominance in the second half with a third goal by Mohammed Hael in the 56th minute. Syria managed to narrow the lead with a goal by substitute Abdulhadi Malghouma in the 71st minute.
Yemen is set to face Lebanon in their next group stage match, scheduled for Wednesday. This match will determine the leader of the group, as Lebanon also holds six points from their victories over Syria and Palestine.
