Dateline: Al-Hodeidah: The Yemeni Sugar Refining Company, in collaboration with the local branch of the Environmental Protection Authority, celebrated World Environment Day by launching the Carbon Neutrality and Biodiversity Program.
According to Yemen News Agency, Abdulqader Yaghnam, Director of the Environmental Protection Authority's branch, commended the environmental partnership with the company, emphasizing its advancements in environmental practices over the past two years. He highlighted the authority's commitment to fostering environmental awareness across industrial and community sectors, supporting initiatives that prioritize environmental responsibility.
Yaghnam identified the company as a pioneering model in merging industrial production with environmental stewardship, indicating a shift towards sustainable private sector development. Mohammed Al-Amari, the company's Deputy Director, expressed that achieving carbon neutrality remains a strategic goal, aligning with top environmental standards and occupational health and safety practices.
Younes Al-Khatib, Director of Environmental Compliance, stated that the company prioritizes environmental issues by executing projects in renewable energy, afforestation, and waste recycling, adhering to its vision for sustainability and social responsibility. Ammar Qarar, Director of Systems and Quality, explained that the newly launched program aligns with the company's commitment to modern environmental management standards, including an Energy Management System aimed at reducing consumption and recycling waste into organic fertilizer.
The event, attended by company and Environmental Protection Authority officials, showcased a documentary report on key environmental activities, with a focus on waste recycling, organic fertilizer production, and biodiversity preservation. The event concluded with a visit to the company's organic fertilizer plant, where a tree-planting campaign was conducted, planting 300 damas tree seedlings as part of the Green Belt Program to enhance vegetation cover around the facility.
