Taiz:The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has reached out to the international community about the recent attack on the Taiz Central Commercial Market, which occurred yesterday at Mafraq Mawiyah in the Al-Ta'iziyah District, resulting in the death and injury of 47 civilians and causing significant damage to civilian property.
According to Yemen News Agency, the ministry has sent memoranda to key international figures and bodies, including the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Yemen, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and member states of both the Security Council and the United Nations. The European Union and the African Union were also informed.
The memoranda accuse the Saudi regime of the attack, describing it as a clear violation of international humanitarian law. The ministry emphasized that this incident is part of a pattern of crimes against civilians by the Saudi regime in Yemen, which has persisted for over 12 years, involving more than a quarter of a million raids and resulting in hundreds of thousands of civilian casualties and widespread destruction.
The ministry urged the international community to exert pressure on the Saudi regime to adhere to international humanitarian law, cease targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, end its aggression, and lift the siege on Yemen. It also called out the global community for its silence on the issue, holding it legally and morally accountable.
Furthermore, the ministry reaffirmed Yemen's right to self-defense under international law, vowing to confront ongoing hostile actions.
