168 Prisoners Released in Sana’a as Part of Rehabilitation Initiative

Sana'a:The Committee for Addressing Prison and Prisoner Cases, under the directive of the Leader of the Revolution and the Chairman of the Supreme Political Council, has overseen the release of 168 prisoners from the Central Correctional Facility in the Capital Secretariat. These individuals were held due to debts owed to private parties and are part of a larger group of 692 prisoners.

According to Yemen News Agency, the release was carried out following a thorough review of the cases and circumstances of the prisoners. Sheikh Ali Qirsha, head of the committee, mentioned that the release aligns with directives from the highest leadership and involved coordination with relevant authorities and claimants.

Sheikh Qirsha highlighted that additional prisoners eligible for release still require financial assistance. He urged benefactors to contribute to the release of these insolvent prisoners, many of whom have served lengthy sentences, thereby promoting social solidarity and rehabilitation.

Mohammed Al-Houri, Deputy Director of the Central Correctional Facility, described the release as more than a procedural action, characterizing it as a chance for the individuals to embark on a better path. He emphasized the significance of such initiatives in supporting rehabilitation and reform efforts.

Afif Al-Shahari, speaking on behalf of the released prisoners, expressed gratitude for the committee's efforts in resolving their cases. The Committee announced that it prioritized prisoners who had served long sentences, ranging from five to 29 years.

The Committee further stated that its efforts have resulted in the release of 7,578 prisoners across 13 governorates over the past year, including 1,168 individuals with private financial claims. They called on claimants to consider pardoning the inmates, an act that restores lives and earns divine reward, and encouraged visits to the facility to facilitate further releases.
