Jeddah: The 27th regular session of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has commenced virtually, marking the first time Dr. Saido Dogon Guida will chair the Commission. The session saw participation from key figures, including Yemen's Minister of Human Rights, Mr. Mashhad Muhammad Omar Ahmad, and Syria's Assistant Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Dr. Raghad Zaidan. According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the opening session featured the launch of a new official website for the Authority, aimed at enhancing communication with member states and partners. Dr. Hadi Al-Yami, the Executive Director, expressed regret over the session's virtual format due to regional security issues. He acknowledged the commitment of officials from Yemen and Syria and congratulated Dr. Guida on his new role, expressing confidence in Guida's leadership. Al-Yami also highlighted the importance of the newly launched website as a significant step in the digital transformati on of the Authority. He emphasized its role in facilitating communication and enhancing the Authority's effectiveness. The session will review the Authority's strategic plan to boost institutional effectiveness and impact. Dr. Saido Dogon Guida emphasized the shared commitment to human rights across the Islamic world and appreciated the strategic framework prepared by the General Secretariat. He noted the challenges facing the Islamic world, including the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, conflicts, Islamophobia, and the impacts of climate change and digital technologies. Yemen's Minister of Human Rights, Mr. Mashdal Mohammed Omar Ahmed, addressed the ongoing violations and humanitarian issues in Yemen, calling for recommendations to protect human rights. Meanwhile, Dr. Raghad Zeidan, representing Syria, highlighted transformations in Syria's human rights situation, including legal reforms and efforts to address past violations.
