Dhamar: Makhlaf Munqitha Multipurpose Agricultural Cooperative Association in Dhamar governorate has initiated the distribution of wheat and legume seeds to farmers in villages across the Makhlaf Munqitha area of Dhamar district. This effort is a key part of preparations for the 2025 autumn farming season and is carried out in collaboration with the General Corporation for Grain Development and Production. The initiative is also coordinated with Bonyan Development Foundation, the governorate's Agriculture Sector, and the local district authority.
According to Yemen News Agency, Deputy Governor for Development Affairs, Ali Atef, lauded the association's efforts, emphasizing the importance of expanding agricultural production in accordance with the revolutionary and political leadership's directives. He urged farmers to capitalize on the support from the association and the General Corporation for Grain Development and Production in growing wheat and legumes, highlighting the region's suitability for these crops.
Executive Director of the General Corporation for Grain Development and Production, Eng. Salah al-Mashraqi, expressed the corporation's dedication to supporting farmers and agricultural cooperatives by providing essential crop seeds. He revealed that the corporation had acquired 3,800 bags of bean seeds from the association, intended for cultivation over 1,900 hectares, with an anticipated minimum yield of two tons per hectare.
Dr. Adel Omar, Head of the Agriculture Sector in the governorate and Director of the Executive Unit for Agricultural Project and Initiative Financing, reiterated the sector's commitment to promoting expanded cultivation of wheat and legumes. He mentioned previous loans provided to agricultural cooperatives to support grain production.
Abdo al-Hareb, representing Bonyan Foundation for the Central Region, highlighted the importance of supporting cooperative agricultural associations in supplying farmers with improved seeds. He emphasized the need to increase wheat and legume cultivation to diminish reliance on food imports.
Eng. Ahmed Shakheb, Head of the Mokhlaf Munqitha Agricultural Cooperative Association, and Executive Director Eng. Mohammed al-Munqidhi, detailed the seed distribution plan, which includes 550 bags of wheat and legume seeds, with 100 bags of wheat seeds allocated to 80 farmers. They noted the association's receipt of 152 tons of beans from 467 farmers, delivered to the General Corporation for Grain Development and Production, as part of efforts to boost agricultural production and improve farmers' livelihoods.
