Agriculture Ministry Condemns Saudi Airstrikes on Yemeni Fishermen and Farmers

Hodeida:The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has issued a strong condemnation of Saudi airstrikes that have reportedly targeted fishermen in the Dhubab District of Taiz and a citizen's farm in the Al Munirah District of Hodeida. These attacks resulted in the deaths of several fishermen and the killing of cattle.

According to Yemen News Agency, the ministry described the targeting of fishermen while they were working in coastal waters, including pursuing and attacking them as they attempted to escape, as a crime against civilians and fisheries workers. The ministry highlighted the incident as a blatant violation of international laws that protect fishermen and their livelihoods.

The ministry's statement also rejected the Saudi-led coalition's claims that traditional boats were being used to smuggle weapons, missiles, and military equipment into Yemen. It emphasized that such allegations do not justify the targeting of civilian fishermen and their boats. Furthermore, the ministry noted that attacks on farms, agricultural facilities, and livestock severely undermine the agricultural sector, food security, and citizens' livelihoods, viewing these actions as part of a systematic campaign against national productive sectors.

The ministry stressed that these continued attacks would not deter Yemenis from working, producing, and defending their land, waters, and livelihoods. It held the Saudi forces fully responsible for the human, material, economic, and environmental damage caused by these actions. Additionally, the ministry called on the international community and relevant organizations to fulfill their responsibilities in addressing ongoing attacks on civilians and workers in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to developing both the agriculture and fisheries sectors, boosting local production, and strengthening food security amid the impacts of the aggression and blockade.
