Al-jawf: The "Ain Al-Insaniya" Center for Human Rights and Development strongly condemned the recent attack by Saudi aircraft on the Central Correctional Facility in Al-Jawf Governorate. This attack marks another incident in the growing list of grave violations against civilians and civilian infrastructure in Yemen.

According to Yemen News Agency, the Center revealed that the attack on the correctional facility led to the death and injury of several inmates and visitors, including a woman visiting her husband and a child. This incident highlights a blatant disregard for civilian lives and fundamental principles of international humanitarian law.

The Center emphasized that attacking a detention facility is an extremely serious crime, as prisoners and their visitors are not legitimate military targets. The presence of a woman among the victims underscores the peril faced by civilians.

Furthermore, the Center stressed that protecting individuals deprived of their liberty is a fundamental obligation under international humanitarian law. Even during armed conflicts, prisoners are guaranteed protection from killing, targeting, and inhumane treatment. Civilians visiting detention centers should not face life-threatening dangers.

The "Ain Al-Insaniya" Center held the Saudi forces fully accountable for this crime and its human toll. It urged the United Nations and international human rights organizations to break their silence on the crimes against Yemeni civilians, work towards protecting prisoners and civilians, and implement measures to prevent further targeting.

The Center reiterated that ongoing attacks on civilians and facilities, including detention centers, represent a severe violation of international humanitarian law, necessitating a decisive international response appropriate to the severity of these crimes.
