Sanaa: The Ministry of Justice and Human Rights has strongly condemned the Saudi airstrike on the Central Correctional Facility in Al-Hazm District, Al-Jawf Governorate, which reportedly killed and wounded inmates and visitors and left dozens missing under the rubble, including women and children.
According to Yemen News Agency, the ministry described the attack as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits targeting persons deprived of their liberty and facilities designated for their detention and care. The ministry stressed that the facility is a civilian establishment operating under legal procedures and that those inside it are protected by law and cannot be considered military targets.
It held the Saudi leadership fully responsible for the deaths, injuries, disappearances, and destruction caused by the attack, stressing that those responsible must face accountability and prosecution. The ministry said the targeting of detainees who are unable to protect themselves or escape danger constitutes a grave violation of their right to life and physical safety, and called on the international community to uphold its responsibility to protect civilians, detainees, and enforce international humanitarian law.
It added that its specialized bodies will continue documenting the attack and other violations against civilians, detainees, judicial, and correctional facilities, and will refer relevant files to national and international authorities.
