Sanaa: Shura Council speaker Mohammed al-Aidrous and his deputies, Mohammed al-Durra and Dhaifullah Rassam, conducted a comprehensive review of the work of several permanent council committees on Sunday, with a focus on human rights, public freedoms, and civil society issues.
According to Yemen News Agency, the leadership of the council underscored the importance of completing committee tasks in accordance with current requirements and ensuring the implementation of council recommendations by relevant authorities. The session highlighted challenges within prisons and detention facilities, such as finding suitable housing for female inmates, addressing the issues faced by financially constrained prisoners, and enhancing the performance of correctional institutions.
The meeting was chaired by Human Rights Committee head Haseeba Shneef and included key officials from the Public Prosecutor's Office and other council committees. Discussions involved committee reports on prison conditions, field visits to detention facilities across various governorates, and measures that have led to prisoner releases over the past year.
Participants emphasized the necessity for coordination among relevant bodies to effectively implement both council and prosecutor recommendations.
