Al-dhale': The Committee for Addressing Prison and Prisoner Issues conducted an inspection of the Damt District detention facility in Al-Dhale' Governorate. This visit was in line with directives from the revolutionary leadership and the President of the Supreme Political Council, aiming to review the conditions of prisoners and expedite the resolution of their cases.
According to Yemen News Agency, during the inspection, the committee assessed the situations of 103 prisoners who are at different stages of litigation. As a result, they approved the release of 46 inmates whose legal procedures had been concluded. Representatives from the Public Prosecution and the Grievances Authority were present as the committee examined the conditions of prisoners under investigation, trial, and those in the enforcement phase, while also reviewing their legal files, detention durations, and the progress of actions against them.
The committee identified several issues that are delaying the resolution of certain cases. They have directed judicial and security authorities to implement urgent measures to address these, including completing investigations, expediting delayed cases, and ensuring that no prisoners remain detained without legal justification.
Additionally, the committee evaluated the living and health conditions within the facility, emphasizing the importance of improving the detention environment and ensuring the provision of basic necessities in line with existing laws and regulations. This visit is part of a wider initiative aimed at addressing prison and prisoner issues, focusing on thorough file reviews, boosting coordination with judicial and oversight bodies, and activating restorative justice mechanisms to alleviate the hardships faced by prisoners and their families.
