Al-Rahda: The Anti-Smuggling Unit in Taiz province, in collaboration with Al-Rahda Customs Center, has successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle foreign garlic hidden in a "Shas" pickup truck.
According to Yemen News Agency, Muhammad Al-Jabri, Director of Al-Rahda Customs Center, reported that the confiscated garlic consisted of 230 bags, each weighing approximately 10 kilograms. Al-Jabri highlighted that smuggling operations significantly threaten the national economy and adversely affect local producers. He warned that the ongoing smuggling of agricultural products poses a risk to national food security.
Fahd Al-Muadhin, Deputy Director of the Center for Customs Enforcement, noted that customs authorities, in coordination with the Anti-Smuggling Unit, are persistently working to monitor and intercept smuggled goods. He emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation with relevant authorities and the implementation of stricter surveillance measures on roads and entry points.
The Government of Change and Development, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, has prohibited the import of foreign garlic following Yemen's achievement of self-sufficiency in local garlic production.
