Sana'a: An expanded preparatory meeting was held at the Tax and Customs Authority, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for Defense and Security Affairs, Jalal Al-Ruwaishan, to review arrangements for an upcoming anti-smuggling meeting involving relevant government bodies.
According to Yemen News Agency, Al-Ruwaishan discussed measures aimed at strengthening coordination among agencies responsible for combating smuggling. He emphasized the importance of countering smuggling to protect the national economy and preserve public resources, highlighting the role of the Tax and Customs Authority in preventing the entry of smuggled goods, expired products, and other materials that may harm public health and economic stability.
Al-Ruwaishan stressed the need for greater coordination among concerned institutions, describing the planned expanded meeting as an opportunity to assess existing challenges, review current anti-smuggling efforts, and develop practical mechanisms to address the issue and reduce its economic and social impacts.
For his part, the acting head of the Tax and Customs Authority affirmed the authority's commitment to enhancing cooperation with relevant agencies to improve performance and strengthen national efforts to combat smuggling. Participants reviewed the technical and organizational preparations for the upcoming meeting, including working papers and proposed topics focusing on the causes and impacts of smuggling, as well as measures to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and improve institutional coordination.
