Sana'a: The Al-Yateem Development Foundation in Sana'a today launched the activities of the third National Orphan Day, which coincides with the first Friday of the blessed month of Ramadan each year, by holding an open recreational day for orphans in "Fun City" garden in the Capital Secretariat, along with organizing a group iftar, a cultural Ramadan evening, and distributing cash sponsorships benefiting 750 orphans.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Acting Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment, Sam Al-Bishiri, praised the foundation's activities and projects targeting orphans, affirming the importance of concerted official and community efforts to support the foundation and enhance its role in providing health, social, and educational care for orphans, transforming them from a state of need to production and active contribution to nation-building.
For his part, the Head of the General Zakat Authority, Sheikh Shamsan Abu Nashatan, pointed to the great status of orphans in Islam and the virtue of sponsoring and caring for them, citing that the noble Prophet (peace be upon him) grew up an orphan. He emphasized the importance of providing psychological and moral protection and care for this group, praising the foundation's initiative to make the first Friday of Ramadan a national day for orphans, contributing to their integration into society and transforming them into active and productive elements.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Executive Director of the Al-Yateem Foundation, Abdulkarim Al-Sulool, explained that the National Day included, in addition to recreational and cultural activities, the distribution of cash sponsorship to 750 orphans, pointing out that these activities come within the framework of the foundation's Ramadan projects aimed at bringing joy to the hearts of orphans and alleviating their suffering under the current circumstances.
Al-Sulool affirmed that orphan sponsorship is not limited to the material aspect but extends to include moral embrace and integrated care aimed at building a generation with high ambition capable of giving, noting that many creative and innovative individuals in recent years have been from the orphan category, reflecting the importance of investing in this group to achieve sustainable development.
The foundation called on philanthropists, the private sector, and the community to support its efforts to enable it to continue providing integrated care for orphans and meeting their health, educational, economic, and social needs.
The event was attended by a number of officials and representatives of institutions and the private sector, and featured choral performances, poems, and awareness videos expressing the occasion.
