Cairo: Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy declared on Monday that the sovereignty of Arab states is a "red line" that must not be compromised, as reported by Xinhua. Speaking at his inaugural press conference since taking office on July 1, Fahmy emphasized that the national security of the Arab world is a collective duty that necessitates a unified approach.
According to Nam News Network, Fahmy underscored the importance of regional solidarity by stating, "Any aggression targeting the security of any Arab state is an aggression against the security of the entire Arab world." He addressed regional tensions, noting that ongoing crises in countries such as Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Libya, and Somalia can only be solved through dialogue and diplomacy.
Fahmy affirmed the Arab League's dedication to supporting initiatives aimed at restoring security and stability in these nations. The focus, he noted, would be on preserving territorial integrity, ceasing hostilities, increasing humanitarian aid, and ensuring the safe and dignified return of displaced persons and refugees.
He also reiterated that the Palestinian cause remains a top priority for the Arab League. Fahmy pledged continued defense of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, efforts to end the occupation, and accountability for those committing "crimes against civilians."
