Doha: The emergency meeting of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions has recommended supporting the outcomes of the Arab-Islamic Summit and advancing political and diplomatic measures to counter Israeli actions.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the General Assembly emphasized the need to suspend Israel’s United Nations membership under Article 5 of the Charter. The assembly also called for expedited investigations and accountability measures against Israeli occupation, extending these to include aggression against Qatar, and supporting the independence of the international judiciary.
The meeting, initiated by the National Human Rights Committee, focused on addressing the repercussions of Israeli actions against Qatar, which have impacted human rights, including the right to life and security. The aggression has temporarily disrupted education for over 1,000 students due to damage and fear, highlighting the need for international intervention.
Ms. Samar Al-Hajj, Chairperson of the Arab Network, emphasized the historical significance of the meeting amid ongoing aggression affecting various regions, including Qatar. She outlined the systematic human rights violations, including attacks on civilians and infrastructure, and called for continued efforts in monitoring, documentation, and forming international investigative committees.
Mr. Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali, Secretary-General of the National Human Rights Committee, highlighted the meeting's recommendations, including strengthening cooperation among national institutions to document violations and intensify efforts to expose them. The meeting also stressed the importance of legal support for victims and forming alliances to present documented cases to international courts.
Mr. Issam Arouri, Chairman of the Independent Commission for Human Rights in Palestine, described the Israeli aggression against Qatar as a violation of sovereignty and a threat to regional peace. The meeting concluded with calls for Arab and Islamic countries to fulfill their legal obligations and hold Israel accountable for its actions.
