Dhamar:Awareness activities focusing on the dangers of indiscriminate pesticide use were conducted across several areas in the Mifaa Ans District, including Sinban, Hammat Suleiman, Kaeib Station, Maram, and Jarf Asbil. These efforts were spearheaded by the Agriculture Sector of Dhamar Governorate.
According to Yemen News Agency, the campaign was part of the second phase of a program aimed at raising awareness about the safe handling and use of agricultural pesticides. The initiative was implemented in partnership with the local authority and agricultural cooperative associations.
Engineer Hafez Al-Junaid, Deputy Head of the Agriculture Sector, explained that the two-day field activities involved distributing informational posters and brochures and holding guidance sessions for farmers, pesticide retailers, and handlers. These sessions emphasized the safe use of pesticides and the risks associated with their indiscriminate application.
The program's objective is to bolster protection efforts for the environment, agricultural land, and the well-being of people and animals against the hazards related to pesticide use.
Engineer Atiq Al-Abrat, Director of the Plant Protection Department, added that the awareness team, consisting of specialists and Agriculture Sector personnel, conducted guidance sessions in the targeted areas. The sessions addressed the risks and health issues stemming from indiscriminate pesticide use, pre-harvest safety intervals, correct pesticide handling, safe spraying techniques, and the dangers of banned and smuggled pesticides and fertilizers.
