Awareness Sessions in Hodeida Address Dangers of Dengue Fever and Malaria

Hodeida: The Office of Health and Environment in Al-Hodeidah Governorate organized two awareness sessions today focused on the dangers, complications, and prevention methods of dengue fever and malaria. These sessions targeted mosque preachers, imams, and school health supervisors across the city’s districts.



According to Yemen News Agency, the sessions aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge about these diseases, their causes, and preventive measures. Emphasis was placed on proper water storage, filling pits and stagnant ponds, and reducing mosquito breeding sites. Dr. Ali Al-Haddad, Director of the Health and Environment Office, highlighted ongoing epidemiological monitoring efforts and the challenges faced in eliminating mosquito breeding sources.



Dr. Al-Haddad stressed the significance of community awareness, led by preachers, imams, and school health supervisors, in educating the populace about the risks of these diseases and necessary preventive actions. He identified stagnant water ponds, puddles, and old tires as primary mosquito breeding sites and called for community collaboration to eliminate them. He highlighted that combating dengue fever and malaria requires a combination of treatment, awareness, and prevention.



Deputy President of Dar Al-Uloom University, Sheikh Ali Odhabi, and Head of the Guidance Sector in the governorate, Abdulrahman Al-Warfi, praised the Health Office’s efforts in organizing these sessions. They emphasized the critical role of mosque preachers, imams, and school health supervisors in educating the public, teachers, and students about disease risks, transmission causes, and infection prevention.



The sessions included lectures that explored the main objectives and themes, distinguishing between dengue fever and malaria, and detailing their symptoms, causes, and effective prevention strategies.
