Boxing Championship Begins in Sana’a with Focus on National Aspirations

Sana'a: The 27th Open Promotional Boxing Club Championship commenced at the Recreational Club Hall in Sana'a, organized by the Boxing Federation and held under the slogan "Martyrs on the Path to Jerusalem." The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and supported by the Youth Fund.

According to Yemen News Agency, sixty-five boxers are participating in the four-day championship, competing across eight weight categories. The clubs represented include Al-Ahli Sana'a, Al-Wahda Sana'a, 22 May, Al-Shurta, Khawlan al-Tayyal, and the National Complex. The opening ceremony saw attendance from notable figures such as the chairman of the Police Sports Federation, Abdul Rahman al-Mu'ayyad, and the Vice President of the Boxing Federation, Mohammed al-Harazi. Dr. Fikri al-Jawfi, the Federation's Secretary-General, highlighted the Federation's dedication to hosting promotional championships aimed at widening the sport's reach and invigorating club activities.

Dr. al-Jawfi further underscored the significance of providing a platform for emerging players to showcase their talents. He remarked that the tournament serves as a preparatory ground for international competitions and plays a role in selecting members for the national team.

The championship's first day featured 16 preliminary matches, which took place in an energetic setting with a sizeable audience. The results of the matches are as follows:

- In the 44 kg weight class, Mansour al-Ashmi (Al-Ahli) faced Mohammed al-Barkani (22 May).

- The 48 kg category saw Abdullah al-Nahari (al-Wahda) against Abdul Salam al-Madani (al-Shurta).

- Osama Mohammed Zaid (al-Shurta) competed with Mohammed Yousef (al-Wahda) in the 51 kg class.

- Yaqoub al-Najjar (al-Shurta) met Abdulrahman al-Salami (al-Wahda) in the 54 kg category.

- The 57 kg match featured Nasr al-Dhabibi (Al-Mujamma) against Mu'taz Mansour (al-Shurta).

- Essam al-Omari (al-Shurta) and Ahmed al-Mufazzar (al-Wahda) battled in the 60 kg class.

- In the 67 kg category, Abdullah al-Wusabi (May 22nd) faced Nawaf Qasim (Khawlan al-Tayyal).

- Finally, Abdulrahman Ghamshi (May 22nd) went against Mustafa Qutban (al-Wahda) in the 75 kg weight class.
