Sana'a: The General Directorate for Women's Development, the Women's Authority, and the Rushd Foundation for Development and Research, in cooperation with the cooperative societies of the Women's Department in the Capital Sana'a, initiated the fifth season of the 'Vegetables from Your Home' campaign. The campaign operates under the slogan 'Cultivate Your Awareness. Cultivate Your Food,' with support and funding from the Agricultural and Fisheries Production Encouragement Fund.
According to Yemen News Agency, Hadeel Al-Houthi, representing the cooperative societies of the Women's Department in the Capital, discussed the societies' efforts in supporting agricultural initiatives, encouraging community participation, and promoting local production. She emphasized the necessity of integration and cooperation to achieve the campaign's objectives and enhance self-sufficiency.
Laila Al-Thulaya, from the Agricultural and Fisheries Production Encouragement Fund, spoke on the significance of supporting agricultural initiatives and expanding home gardening. She highlighted the importance of partnerships between official and community organizations in developing the agricultural sector and sustainable development.
Mona Al-Kebsi, an agricultural officer at the Rushd Foundation, stressed the relevance of home gardening and fostering a culture of self-sufficiency. She noted that the campaign's current season builds on the success of previous ones, reflecting the growing awareness of agricultural production's importance, starting from the family and home.
Al-Kebsi explained that home gardening transcends mere vegetable production, serving as an educational and social practice that instills values of work, production, and self-reliance in families. It aids in building a productive society that utilizes resources effectively, transforming available spaces into opportunities for production.
She added that the campaign's fifth season underlines that self-sufficiency begins with awareness, where a seed planted at home today could lead to food security tomorrow. Cultivating awareness leads to cultivated land, resulting in hope, production, and development.
The event featured an introductory presentation on the 'Vegetables from Your Home' campaign, showcasing home gardening's role in food provision and encouraging families to utilize available spaces productively. It also included a choral operetta by young girls, a practical seed planting competition, and prize distribution to winners, embodying the campaign's goal of translating agricultural knowledge into practice.
