Sanaa:Bab al-Mandab Strait: The Ministry of Transport and Public Works has issued statistics showing active maritime navigation and commercial shipping in the Bab al-Mandab Strait between September 22 and 26, 2026.
According to Yemen News Agency, the data revealed that 198 commercial vessels transited the strategic waterway, with traffic flowing normally. Of these, 104 vessels, representing 52.5% of the total, traveled north, while 94 vessels, or 47.5%, headed south.
The statistics highlighted that September 25 saw the highest daily traffic, with 50 vessels passing through the straitĀ30 moving north and 20 south.
The ministry noted that some vessels may not appear in tracking data due to their tracking systems being turned off, which could mean actual figures are higher. It emphasized ongoing efforts to monitor and share navigational data to maintain the security and safety of international shipping and global supply chains in the Bab al-Mandab corridor, excluding Saudi vessels.
The ministry reiterated that maritime traffic through the strait remains safe for international vessels, except for Saudi enemy vessels, which it accuses of maintaining aggression and a blockade against Yemen for 12 years.
