Sana'a: The First National Conference on Occupational Safety and Health concluded in Sana'a after three days, with participants calling for stronger safety culture, updated laws and regulations, and full compliance with safety standards by employers.
According to Yemen News Agency, the conference was organized by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the General Federation of Workers' Trade Unions. It brought together over 636 participants from across Yemen. Key recommendations included creating a comprehensive electronic database, prioritizing workplace risk prevention, integrating safety concepts into education and training, and requiring medical examinations before employment.
The conference produced draft national policies and a strategy for 2026-2030, along with proposals for a national safety committee and annual safety award. It also featured 35 papers, 15 workshops, and panel discussions on safety, innovation, and capacity building.
During the closing, officials stressed the importance of building a national safety system aligned with international standards and honoring workers' contributions, while highlighting the need to reduce workplace injuries and improve working conditions in Yemen.
