Khartoum: The Designated Expert on the Human Rights Situation in Sudan, Radhouane Nouicer, is to arrive in the country tomorrow, Sunday, for a several-day visit during which he is to meet with a number of government officials. The visit is part of Sudan's continued collaboration with international human rights bodies and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
According to Sudan News Agency, the visit aims to emphasize positive engagement with the United Nations to promote and develop the human rights situation in the country. It also seeks to address the grave violations committed by the rebel militia against civilians with external support, including the recruitment of mercenaries and outlaws.
This marks the third visit of the designated expert, Radhouane Nouicer, to Sudan. During his visit, Nouicer is expected to examine the conditions of displaced persons and victims of widespread sexual violence and rape, incidents that have been attributed to the rebel militia and are seen as violations of both national and international humanitarian laws.
