Sana'a: Today, 100 prisoners convicted in non-serious cases were released in Dhamar Governorate, under the supervision of the Committee for Addressing Prison and Prisoners' Cases appointed by the Revolution Leader and the President of the Supreme Political Council.
According to Yemen News Agency, the release of the prisoners comes as a batch from among 287 prisoners whose cases the Committee, in coordination with relevant authorities and philanthropists, has finalized-either by paying what they owed to others, through pardon, or by those who qualified for conditional release, having received a certificate of good conduct and behavior from the correctional facility, in accordance with Articles 506 and 508 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
During the release, the Governor of Dhamar, Mohammed Al-Bukhayti, praised the efforts of the Committee for Addressing Prisoners' Cases, appointed by the Revolution Leader and the President of the Supreme Political Council, in resolving this number of prisoners' cases in a short time. He noted the significant role of the Committee Chairman, Sheikh Ali Qarshah.
He affirmed the local authority's commitment to providing the necessary support to the Committee and overcoming any difficulties it faces, expressing gratitude to the relevant authorities and the Correctional Facility administration for their cooperation and for ensuring the success of the Committee's mission.
For his part, the Chairman of the Committee for Addressing Prison and Prisoners' Cases, Sheikh Ali Qarshah, explained that the release of 278 prisoners at the Central Correctional Facility in Dhamar Governorate came in accordance with the directives of the Revolution Leader and the President of the Supreme Political Council, following a review of the prisoners' conditions and cases, and the resolution of their cases in coordination with relevant authorities and rights holders.
He noted that there are still cases that could be released but require financial support, calling on relevant authorities, tribal sheikhs, and philanthropists to cooperate with the Committee and support its efforts to address prisoners' cases.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Appeal Prosecution in Dhamar Governorate, Judge Anan Sha'ei, confirmed that 100 prisoners from the Central Correctional Facility were released today, while legal procedures are being completed for the release of 187 others whose cases the Committee has resolved.
He urged the General Authority for Zakat and philanthropists to actively contribute to the release of indigent prisoners.
