Dhamar: The General Authority for Endowments (Awqaf) and Guidance Office in Dhamar Governorate organized a commemorative event on Sunday to mark the anniversary of the passing of the Islamic scholar and mujahid, Sayyed Badr al-Din bin Amir al-Din al-Houthi.
According to Yemen News Agency, Dhamar Governor Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, speaking at the event, emphasized that the late scholar represented a comprehensive Qur'anic school and served as a beacon of knowledge and education. His contributions significantly raised awareness, built generations, and strengthened the faith-based identity against misleading and hostile projects targeting the nation.
The event was attended by Deputy Governors Mahmoud Al-Jubain and Mohammed Abdul Razzaq, President of Dhamar University Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi, Vice President Dr. Abdulkafi Al-Rifai, and the governorate's Mobilization Official Ahmed Al-Dourani. Al-Bukhaiti noted that Sayyed Badr al-Din al-Houthi's life, positions, and educational and scholarly legacy left a profound impact on all who knew and interacted with him. He highlighted the scholar's piety, wisdom, courage, steadfast adherence to principles, and his role in fostering an educational environment from which the Qur'anic movement emerged.
Al-Bukhaiti further described Sayyed Badr al-Din al-Houthi's influence, mentioning that even his opponents respected him for his sincerity and devotion. He called on scholars and students to document the details of the late scholar's life and educational experience, considering it a national and moral responsibility to introduce future generations to his contributions to the nation's intellectual and jihadist heritage.
Director of the Governorate's Awqaf and Guidance Office, Faisal Al-Hatfi, stated that the anniversary serves as an important occasion to reflect on the scholar's exceptional life rooted in the Holy Qur'an. He noted the ongoing benefits from the integrated Qur'anic school established by the scholar, which combined knowledge and steadfast principles, and continues to influence Yemeni society.
Al-Hatfi reviewed significant milestones in Sayyed Badr al-Din al-Houthi's life, including his teaching, patience, and role in spreading Islamic sciences. He described the 'Maran' period as pivotal in the scholar's intellectual journey, contributing to an educational renaissance and preparing a generation capable of confronting challenges to the nation's identity.
Yemen Scholars Association member Ismail Al-Washli highlighted the late scholar's embodiment of a practicing scholar who combined knowledge and piety. He described Sayyed Badr al-Din al-Houthi as a pioneer in good deeds and an advocate of all that pleases Allah. Al-Washli noted piety as the defining characteristic of the scholar's personality, which enabled him to fulfill his educational mission and strengthen Qur'anic values within society.
Al-Washli concluded by stating that commemorating Sayyed Badr al-Din al-Houthi's passing provides an opportunity to draw lessons from his life dedicated to serving religion and the nation, remaining steadfast in principles until his death.
