Dhamar: The Office of the General Zakat Authority in Zamar Governorate launched a field awareness campaign to promote zakat culture. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of zakat and its religious obligation, as part of ongoing efforts to spread zakat knowledge among all segments of society.
According to Yemen News Agency, Ibrahim Al-Mutawakkil, Director of the Authority's office in the governorate, explained that the campaign is part of a comprehensive awareness program targeting merchants, major, medium, and small taxpayers, as well as the general public. Its goal is to increase understanding of zakat rulings, its nisab (minimum threshold), and its religious objectives, while encouraging compliance with timely payment.
He noted that the campaign seeks to correct misconceptions, remind taxpayers of their religious and social responsibilities, emphasizing that zakat is a fundamental pillar of social solidarity. The campaign relies on direct awareness methods, including distributing and posting informational posters on the doors of shops and various establishments.
Al-Mutawakkil pointed out that direct methods are an effective tool to convey awareness messages to every taxpayer and all those obliged to pay zakat, in addition to the general public. This approach promotes a culture of initiative and promptness in giving zakat during the blessed month of Ramadan, noting that these activities are carried out annually during this holy month.
He added that this year, the Zakat al-Fitr has been set at 550 riyals, urging citizens to give it early to ensure distribution during the second half of Ramadan and guarantee that it reaches eligible recipients among the poor and needy.
Al-Mutawakkil emphasized the importance of social solidarity and cooperation amid difficult economic conditions, stressing that zakat directly helps alleviate the suffering of the needy, fostering a spirit of responsibility and compassion within the community.
