Dhamar Launches Environmental Campaign to Regulate Used Oil Handling

General

Dhamar: The General Authority for Environment and Climate Change in Dhamar governorate launched a field campaign to regulate the collection and disposal of used oils under the slogan 'Safe and Healthy Environment.'

According to Yemen News Agency, the campaign aims to identify sources of waste oils, collect them in licensed facilities, and ensure their safe recycling while preventing their improper use as fuel in bakeries, baths, and food factories due to their environmental and health risks.

During the launch, officials stressed that improper handling of waste oils poses serious environmental hazards, including groundwater pollution and toxic emissions. They noted that even a small amount of used oil can severely contaminate large volumes of water.

Authorities said the campaign will include inspections of relevant facilities such as bakeries, workshops, power generators, and fuel stations, with violators subject to environmental regulations. The initiative also includes awareness programs and plans for safe collection and recycling through designated treatment units.
