Sana'a: Dhamar University held a cultural seminar titled 'Al-Bardouni: A Poem Ahead of Its Time' to mark the 27th anniversary of the death of renowned Yemeni poet and intellectual Abdullah al-Bardouni. The event saw participation from academics, literature, and intellectual figures.
According to Yemen News Agency, University President Dr. Mohammed al-Haifi emphasized the significance of revisiting al-Bardouni's poetic and intellectual legacy. Dr. al-Haifi recognized al-Bardouni as a leading figure in Arab literature and a pioneer of poetic renewal, noting his lasting impact on Yemeni and Arab culture. Al-Bardouni's work documented crucial stages of Yemen's history and addressed issues concerning the people, the nation, and the wider Arab world.
Dr. al-Haifi stated that commemorating al-Bardouni should extend beyond recalling his biography or reciting his works. He called for continued engagement with al-Bardouni's poetry and thought as subjects for reading, criticism, dialogue, and creativity, highlighting their relevance to contemporary issues.
The seminar included presentations by university officials and academics who examined various aspects of al-Bardouni's literary and intellectual experience. Discussions centered on his views on colonialism, foreign intervention, and Yemeni sovereignty, as well as his contributions to Yemen's cultural and media life.
