Amran: The Amran Water Basin Committee discussed in its meeting today chaired by Governor Dr. Faisal Ja'man measures to preserve the basin from infringements and random drilling. The committee reviewed 30 applications for drilling new wells and deepening and maintaining existing wells along with their technical and legal status to obtain licenses.
According to Yemen News Agency, the committee approved accepting 21 applications after meeting the technical and legal conditions and rejected the remaining submitted applications for their illegality while emphasizing the prohibition of random and excessive drilling in the basin areas. During the meeting, Governor Ja'man emphasized the importance of applying the law to preserve groundwater as a national wealth belonging to future generations and that the responsibility for preserving it falls upon everyone.
He urged everyone to combine efforts and cooperate with the Authority in protecting groundwater from random drilling and reporting any illegal drilling operation. Governor Ja'man stressed the need for relevant authorities to bear their responsibility in protecting the water basin and enhancing coordination with local authorities in districts and security agencies to control violators.
Meanwhile, the director of the branch of the Water Resources and Facilities Authority in the governorate, Engineer Fahd AlSufyani, reviewed the technical aspects related to the applications submitted to the Authority's branch for granting licenses to drill wells and deepen others. He addressed the specified locations for the submitted applications and their details, their legality extent, and technical observations on them, in addition to many activities and works implemented by the Authority and the difficulties accompanying performance.
AlSufyani confirmed referring a number of owners of violating drilling rigs to the public prosecution and judiciary to take legal measures according to the Water Law.
